Shining Star: Laura Kmiotek

Meet Laura Kmiotek- Orion’s Vice President of Global Finance and November’s Shining Star! Check out Laura’s Q&A to hear more about her travels and ways to stay active

Where are you from? 

I grew up on Long Island and have spent most of my life here.  After spending a few of my best years in Brooklyn, I returned to Long Island’s south shore where I currently live with my husband and two children.

What company did you last work for?

What was your position, and what did you do there?  Before joining Orion, I worked on the Mediabrands Global FP&A team as a financial analyst.  After seeing the business from a bird’s eye view, I realized I wanted to learn more and was naturally drawn to Orion because of its unique model.  Before working at Mediabrands, I worked in the financial services industry.

Something interesting you might not know about me…

I love to travel and try different outdoor activities.  Some of my favorite memories are snorkeling in Iceland over the rift where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, riding my first wave all the way to shore in Maui, and paddle boarding a 7-mile beach in Grand Cayman.

What are your hobbies?

Staying active – running, walking, hiking, peloton, endlessly chasing my toddlers around the house…. any way to get moving.

What’s your favorite quote?

“You can do it” – my grandmother.  She led a life of adversity and was an inspiration to me and my two sisters growing up.  She taught us confidence, self-worth, and how to be strong, independent women.
