My Best Self: Stephen Eghan

How do you define striving to be your “Best Self?”
Being my best self for me involves being open to new experiences and learning opportunities. This could entail picking up a new book, partaking in a new event, or building new relationships. All of which helps and adds to my self improvement.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in the country of Ghana, but at the age of 3 moved to the Bronx, NY with my family, where I have stayed for a little over 20 years. Every winter break during my college years (except my final year with the pandemic) I was able to go back to Ghana to visit for a few weeks.

What’s your favorite (sports team / band / tv show / movie)?
At the moment, I would say “Abbott Elementary.” I enjoyed watching “The Office,” like so many other people. This new series has a similar vibe, except in a school setting. I get a glimpse into the point of view of an elementary school teacher, while enjoying a couple of laughs here and there.

Best piece of advice you have received?
Best advice I’ve been told multiple times, and agree with, is to not be afraid to fail. We learn the most through failure, and it is important to not let it hold you back.

What skill are you currently learning (or would love to learn)?
I recently became interested in winter sports. Two months ago, I tried my hand at snowboarding and ice skating for the first time. Ice skating was a bit difficult at the first try. I’ve already completed one lesson since then, but planning on signing up for more until I at least become comfortable on the ice, which might take a while.
