Shining Star: Nicola Christie

Nicola Christie, our finance accounting manager, is Orion’s first Shining Star of 2021. The Jamaican native shares her teenage experiences, including a major move from the Caribbean to one of New York’s most famed neighborhoods — Harlem.

Nicola Christie selfieSo, tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, I was born and raised on the island of Jamaica but migrated to the United States at the tender age of 15. I lived in Harlem for a few years before going off to college. I attended Ithaca College, where I got my bachelor’s in accounting. While there, I was on the track and jujitsu teams — and I joined the military during my sophomore year.

Prior to becoming an Orionite, I was a senior analyst at McCann Worldgroup. I worked at McCann for about 13 years, and in my last role, I worked on global contracts, pensions, trade, and other receivable bad-debt exemptions and other balance sheet and income statement account analysis,

What’s something that most don’t know about you?
I was a Quad Leader and Specialist in the United States Armed Forces and received a commendation medal for fitness while I was in training.

What’s your favorite sports team?
I absolutely love track and field, so I would have to say the Jamaican female track team is my favorite.
