Eco Committee: Orion Gives Back Edition
At Orion, we continue to focus on others through Orion Gives Back, our week-long charity initiative. This effort is all about learning, sharing, and perhaps most importantly, giving. Thank you all for your generosity, which benefits our chosen charity, Communities in Schools, a nonprofit organization that helps students stay in school and succeed in life.
We are excited to announce that we have raised $1,990, and Orion has agreed to match up to $1,000, bringing our total donation to $2990.
Orion Gives Back leans into our company priorities of D&I, mental health, and sustainability. To finish off the week strong, Orionites collectively are taking a Be Kind Day to recharge and reflect on the importance of taking care of our communities, loved ones, and of course, ourselves. The Eco Committee has several fun suggestions on how you can spend this day supporting the environment with simple, sustainable activities.
We’d love for you to share your pictures and learnings from Be Kind Day. Feel free to email those special moments to OrionCommunication[at]OrionWorldwide.com.
While you consider these ideas, the Eco Committee encourages everyone to work toward a healthier and more sustainable planet. As we all continue to adjust to our “new normal,” we can also care for the planet by instilling simple changes in our everyday lives — and taking a little time to improve our local communities.
Things to do at home:
- Did you know that cutting meat out of your diet can reduce up to 73% of your carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gas emissions? Try something new and enjoy a meatless lunch. Follow these easy recipes — and remember to save the scraps for composting.
- As we transition into the colder months, clean out your belongings, and donate to your nearest charitable organizations. By lengthening the life of any product, you help lessen dependence on disposable or single-use products, which often end up in landfills.
- To unwind, here are 10 eye-catching movies that underscore what it means to live on Earth and contribute to an ecologically sustainable planet.
- The November election will greatly impact our lives — including the state of the environment. Learn how you can encourage New Yorkers to vote by participating in this text bank.
Things to do in the neighborhood:
- Trees improve air and water quality, reduce pollution, and lower energy costs. You can plant trees at the Pelham Bay Park Clean-Up in the Bronx.
- Invasive weeds are impacting Schmul Park on Staten Island. Offer your time and assistance at the Schmul Park Clean-Up.
- Help prevent designer textiles from becoming landfill waste as a FABSCRAP Warehouse Volunteer.
- Consider packing and distributing food to communities in need through the Food Pantry Curbside Delivery program.
