Developing Talent: Hatshree Bhatt’s Story
As part of our efforts to attract, retain and develop diverse talents, the committee’s recruitment strategies have evolved to look beyond the industry’s core talent pool. Earlier this year, Cosmos partnered with COOP and held a networking mixer at our Global Headquarters. COOP is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing diverse upwardly mobile career of college.
During this year’s networking mixer, we had the pleasure of meeting Hatshree Bhatt, one of the members of COOP. Hatshree also attended a COSMOS’ fireside chat, “Keeping the Beat” where she was able to network and interact with Orionites, our senior leaders and the talent teams at Orion and Mediabrands. We’re thrilled to announce that shortly after “Keeping the Beat,” Hatshree accepted a full-time position with Reprise. We recently caught up with her to learn more about her journey.
Why did you get involved with COOP?
After graduating college, my friend and I were talking about how difficult it was to find an entry-level job. Both of us felt very lost trying to navigate the professional world. She discovered COOP through a friend and suggested that we should join. I looked up COOP and saw that it was a non-profit group dedicated to helping diverse first-generation college graduates to jump start their career. Personally, I believe it was perfect timing, since I wanted to be a part of a community that had some sort of similarities to my experiences.
What was the best career advice you received at Orion’s networking mixer?
The best career advice I received at the Cosmos mixer was to “just show up.” One of the industry professionals advised I should attend as many networking events, panels, mixers as I can because people will begin to notice me and by simply showing up, it shows that I am proactive. Additionally, another key takeaway from the mixer was to make connections with others because you never know who you might meet and that person might possibly lead you to a new opportunity or be a mentor to you.
How did you land your current role with Reprise?
I passed my resume around during the Cosmos event at Orion. Shortly after, a recruiter reached out to me and set up an interview. At the interview, one of the Orion employees I met at the mixer happened to be at Reprise and saw me interviewing. The next day, I attended “Keeping the Beat” panel and some of the employees I met during the mixer remembered who I was. Long story short, I ended up getting a full-time offer within IPG Mediabrands for an Analyst position with Reprise/Elevate.
What is the meaning of your name?
My name means Goddess of Love. My mom decided to make it up by putting together the word for love in Gujarati dialect and the word for goddess in Hindi to create my name.
What is the one thing on your bucket list?
Visiting Italy is definitely on my bucket list. I love pasta; it’s about the only food I eat. I also love Roman art and architecture. I took Latin for 4 years in high school and learned a lot about Roman art, history, and mythology. It would be really cool to finally visit and see everything I read about.
